The forthcoming Geneva Motor Show, held from March 8th to 18th at Geneva Palexpo, is expected to present 140 models making their global debuts and about 700,000 visitors.

“Geneva may not be the biggest show, but it is certainly one of the finest and most effective image-builders for carmakers,” said the head of the salon Andre Hefti, noting that 260 exhibitors from 30 countries representing 700 brands will be there.

On March 5th, before the show opening, the Car of the Year trophy will be presented in Geneva, for the first time this year. Last year, the Nissan Leaf, received the trophy offered for the first time to an electric car. The first prize was awarded for the first time in 1964 to the Rover 2000, followed by the Mercedes S600 and the Hilman Imp.

The 2012 finals include seven cars: the Citroen DS5, the Fiat Panda, Toyota Yaris, Ford Focus, the Opel Ampera, the Range Rover Evoque and the Volkswagen Up. The show will present cars powered by the latest eco-friendly technologies and visitors ill be allowed to test the vehicles on a nearby closed circuit.
Among the most awaited cars are the Audi A3, which is the 3rd generation of the German model since 1986, the new Porsche Boxster , the Dacia Lodgy, from Renault, the Fiat 500 L, the Renault Zoe, an electric car, and the luxury Ferrari California.
